Contents insurance explained
What is contents insurance?
Contents insurance covers the things you own inside your home - from furniture and electronics to clothing and personal items.
Why do I need it?
If your belongings are damaged, destroyed or stolen, replacing them can be expensive. Contents insurance helps you repair or replace your items, so an unexpected event doesn’t turn into a financial burden.
Examples of what it can cover
Your sofa, TV or laptop damaged by a leak or flood
Clothes, jewellery or gadgets stolen during a break-in
Furniture or belongings destroyed by a fire
Accidental damage, like spilling paint on a carpet (if included in your policy)

Typical policy extensions
Extended accidental damage
This covers unforeseen and unintentional damage to your contents, such as red wine on your sofa.
Bicycle cover
Bicycle cover means you don’t need to worry about loss, damage or theft while at home or out and about.
Student cover
Cover your family’s possessions while they’re studying and living away from home.
Personal possessions cover
Keep your possessions covered when you take them outside the home - including abroad. From leaving your laptop on the train to losing your watch in the sea.
