Are e-bikes and e-scooters covered by bike insurance?
Good news for cyclists - our bicycle insurance covers the whole family for loss, damage or theft anywhere in the world. We provide £15,000 of cover for your bikes and up to £5,000 per individual bike, so this add-on to our Bronze, Silver or Gold Home Insurance is also great if you are the proud owner of a high-spec bike.
As well as the standard push bike, our bicycle insurance also includes scooters, tandems, trailer cycles. Bike wheels and accessories, such as helmets, lights and saddles, are also covered.
This is an optional add-on to our Bronze, Silver or Gold Home Insurance policies, and the benefits include:
For this Home Insurance add-on, any cycle you power yourself counts as a bicycle, including:
This also includes folding bikes so it’s ideal for commuters.
Happily, your bike is covered both at home and abroad with this add-on to our Bronze, Silver or Gold Home Insurance. We simply ask that you look after your bike as you do at home - so don’t leave it unattended and secure it safely when you’re not using it.
When you add bike insurance to your John Lewis Home Insurance Bronze, Silver or Gold policy, we ask you to use specific bike locks to keep your bike safe.
We have listed the locks you need to use according to the value of your bike:
Value of bike | Lock you'll need to use |
---|---|
£500-£1,200 bike | Appropriate bicycle lock (D-lock or similar) |
£1,200-£2,000 | Bronze, silver or gold-rated Sold Secure lock or a Thatcham approved motorcycle lock |
£2,000+ | Gold-rated Sold Secure lock or a Thatcham approved motorcycle lock |
It’s also a good idea to write down your bike frame’s serial number and take a photograph of the bike when you lock it up anywhere. If your bike is stolen, try to alert the police within 24 hours.
We want you to enjoy your bike for as long as possible. As well as keeping it safely secured, we have a few other tips for taking care of your bike. For example, we recommend keeping your tyres pumped up and your gears well lubricated. Lights are also important for being safe and seen on the road at night and in winter.
